“I was always small and skinny throughout my childhood and as a teenager, that was soon all about to change.”
How it started Throughout my childhood and teenaged years, I was always small and skinny. I was very athletic, loved competing in sports, and was interested in having a good physique, but my lack of knowledge in regards to hypertrophy training and nutrition prevented me from making any significant improvements to my small structure. I ignorantly thought that doing a load of press ups each day would transform my body. I also severely restricted my diet, as I was overly worried about covering up my abs with body fat, so I was not feeding my muscles anywhere near the amount of food they needed to grow.
“I soon began using the school gym after school 2-3 days per week.”
When I was in college studying sport and exercise science, I began taking lessons in the school multi gym. This gym was extremely limited, consisting of dumbbells no heavier than 10kg, one machine for each body part, all attached to one another to form a single gym apparatus, and a few treadmills. Although this was by no means sufficient to complete a fully effective workout, I found myself really enjoying my lessons. As I completed each session I couldn’t wait for the next, and soon enough I began using the gym after school 2-3 days per week. I also expanded my knowledge of training and nutrition through my college courses, additional research and by watching YouTube videos.
“I didn’t know anything about fitness model competitions until one of the personal trainers at the gym suggested that I compete with Miami Pro.”
With the introduction of a semi-structured resistance training program and an increase in the number of calories I was taking in, I finally began to notice my physique taking shape. At the age of 18 I plucked up enough courage to join a proper gym, and from there I upped my training to 5 days a week, focusing each session on one specific body part. Seeing the great physiques on the people around me inspired and motivated me even more – I pushed myself harder and became more and more dedicated to the fitness lifestyle.
“Miami Pro was my first competition, and to win was an indescribable feeling that I will never forget.”
I was oblivious to fitness model competitions until one of the personal trainers at the gym suggested that I compete with Miami Pro. I was intrigued, so I went home and looked up the competition to see what it was all about. From the moment I learned what the competition entailed, I knew I wanted to be on that stage. I love competition and I was determined to create the physique of my dreams, and Miami Pro gave me a goal to work towards which motivated me further.
Miami Pro was my first competition, and to win was an indescribable feeling that I will never forget. I would like to thank Angie Weston for hosting such an incredible show, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I still have so much to improve, but I love the process and cannot wait to compete again.
